Accessorizing Your Vintage Holiday

I'm of the notion that vintage is for everyone! You've just got to know how to pull it off. The easiest vintage to wear is by far vintage accessories. Not sure where to start? Just say desinger! Go gaga over Givenchy, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel!!

For the vintage newbie, start with designer vintage. If you wear it right, no one will even know it's vintage (unless you want them to, of course)!

This vintage Chanel necklace gleams in gold. Draw attention to your assets by wearing a V-neck dress with a perfect length necklace. Add this striking Givenchy heart necklace to your holiday pantsuit. This will add a stylish feminine touch to pants. PS Don't forget the heels!!

Pair a chunky Christian Dior necklace with a strapless number. This will draw the attention to your face and collarbone. Skip the big earrings and bring all the attention to the neckline. This stunning silver Yves Saint Laurent necklace would evoke glamour when paired with bold colors. Think red, black or green. Avoid pastels and greys if you want the necklace to "pop".

Add vintage and add glamour to your holidays!

How You Sparkle, How You Shine

I'm in love with the glamour of the past. I adore the simple, elegant, and classic vintage style. Plus I love the way ladies of another era incorporated these aspects into their everyday life as well as their special occasions. A pair of crystal earring drip and shimmer as a large brooch highlights the neckline of Ann Blyth. Remarkably simplistic and yet so refined.

Why not spruce up jeans and a t-shirt with pear drop crystal earrings? This vintage pair by Coro of New York City is available at Timelesss Design for $19. How about bringing glamour to the office with you? Nothing big. Nothing over-the-top. Just a simple pearl drop hanging from a metallic swirl will add a touch of vintage elegance to your everyday. These rare vintage earrings are available from Trinket Queen for only $12.50.

Didn't get in on these one of a kind options above? Personal Accents carries these dazzling vintagesque earrings. Their crystals enliven the delicate petals of the silver tone floral earrings. Dainty details make them appropriate in the office or out on the town. Available online for only $24.99.

Make every day a special occasion! Add a touch of glamour with simple, elegant and classic earrings.

Golden Inspiration

There's nothing like a hint of gold to brighten a dreary winter day! Put a little spark in your New Year and incorporate some glimmer of vintage gold into your winter wardrobe.

Sparkle and shine a la Gina Lollobrigida in her shimmering, golden dress! This brocade dress in metallic shades of copper, gold, and bronze from Flannery Crane is a classic piece to incorporate into a wardrobe. Perfect for cocktail parties and martinis with the girls. Step out with pizzazz in these golden 1960's heels from Scarlet Vintage. Your feet deserve to shine, too! Suzy Perette designed this 1950's silk party dress with stunning golden peacocks on a rich, black background (Timeless Vixen Vintage). This vintage ball gown is fit for a princess or a royal affair!

Lady Ellen teams gold with rhinestones for a fabulous hair piece of glistening ribbons (VWayne). Topping off your look with just the right touch of glisten. Soft ivory enchanted with golden flowers brings a hint of class and sophistication to this lovely 1950's dress by Dear Golden Vintage. This two piece dress is perfect for a bridesmaid or flower girl in a vintage inspired wedding!
The New Year is the time to dazzle in sophistication, twinkle in class, and shimmer in shades of gold!

Let's Sail Away

I yearn for the warm sun on my face, gentle wind flowing in my hair, and the sound of waves lapping against the shore. For me, sparkling blue water is simply irresistible. Mark Shaw captured Jackie Kennedy's love of the water in 1961. The photograph of Jackie remains stunning, classic, and timeless.

Capture your love for all things nautical by adding a patriotic 1960's red, white, and blue dress to your wardrobe. Get this Jackie O style dress from Great Grandma Agnes' etsy shop for only $32. Set sail everyday by adding an adorable anchor by Stefeny Stanyer to your sassy summer accessories.

Say goodbye to the ordinary and cruise your way into noticeably stylish with this 80s nautical swimsuit. Complete with gold chains this swimsuit from Back Yard Bird Song is perfect for a day of sailing or a beach party with friends.

Set sail with stylish everyday!

Vanity Is Her Name

I'm a lover of anything sparkly so it should come as no surprise that pretties sitting on vanities are amongst my favorites. Glimmering perfume bottles, dazzling mirrors, and shiny silver trinkets are exquisite treasures to me. Diane Kruger uses her pretty vanity for displaying beautiful goodies.

Perfume bottles gleam when paired with mirrors. Get double bling with a vanity tray and accent your favorites by putting them on display. Vintage perfume bottles add a little luxury to your collection. Try a colored bottle from Kalligoddess with a lotus glass topper (only $25). Add a faceted glass bottle from Vintage Mary Ellen to your vanity for a mere $12.

A little glamour for you and your decor!

Keys To The Heart

I'm mesmerized by vintage keys. The wonderment of history; the story behind each key captivates imagination. The symbolism of a heart shaped lock is both timeless and classic.

Taylor Momsen rocks a heart shape locket on the set of Gossip Girl. The designers for Gossip Girl have their fingers on the pulse of fashion. Don't watch for the drama; get obsessed with the fashion! Take a modern twist of the vintage heart locket and add this chuncky silver padlock by Trash And Trinkets to your must-haves.

Black and white pearls combine with a gold locket to make the Black Tie Affair bracelet by Komis Couture a versatile accessory. Feeling a tad creative? Buy a vintage key like this one by KAPARA and design your own. Bring a bit of history to your neck, wrist, or home decor!

Add a bit of timeless charm to your life with darling hearts and decadent keys!

Vicki

Birds of a Feather Flirting Together

I'm tempted by the flirtatious feeling of feathers. Feathers aren't just for showgirls, flappers and burlesque, they're for making a splash anytime!

Sensational Zooey Deschanel adds vintage flair to her look with a black feather skirt. The showgirl in all of us is bound to fall in love with this steam punk corset creation by Olga Italy. Fluffy black feathers and sparkly sequin appliqués create a fun and flirty costume.

Planning a summer wedding? Do something wild with your bridesmaids and add this silk flower (Icing101) to their hair or waist! A touch of vintage mixes with a hint of class combine together to make this brooch (All Made with Love) completely one of a kind.

Go outrageous! Go over-the-top!

Chocolate Decadence

I'm craving scrumptious chocolate. Summer is the perfect chance to bring out your browns. The rich color highlights the summer glow & sun kissed bronze of your skin. Don't stop there; chocolate brown delights on everything from accessories to home decor to s'mores!

A yummy brown peony dazzles on this summer clutch from FIAZCO. Lip-smacking smoky brown topaz highlights the pearls & quarts in this luscious necklace handmade by catrocks. Sizzling sterling loops and drops of chocolate topaz by ArtWark highlight brown eyes and make them glow.

Sinfully delicious throw pillows in lime and chocolate are a stunning edition to a summer home decor. Rukkola creates pillows that are perfect for the patio or a garden party. A delightful babydoll or sundress in chocolate will look as amazing this summer on you as it does on Kate Hudson!

Satisfy your craving by adding some chocolate to your life!

The City is Getting Sexy Again

I have to admit, I watch Sex and the City for the fashion. At times, I find it hard to disniguish the stylish Sarah Jessica Parker from her onscreen character, Carrie Bradshaw. In anticipation of the upcoming movie sequal, I've collected a few of my favorite SJP/Carrie moments. Let the drooling begin!!

I'll be gushing over the fashion in Sex and the City 2 on May 27th! Where will you be?!

Pretty as a Princess

I'm passionate about Vera Wang, tulle, and peachiness.

Hilary Duff shined at the 125th Anniversary Good Housekeeping party. She looks like a princess in this stunning Vera Wang tulle confection. The light peachy make-up highlights her natural beauty. The braided bun is feminine with a hint of messy sexy. Accessorized with a Jimmy Choo clutch and Brian Atwood "Maniac" pumps, this look is all perfection.

You're never too old to channel the princess in you!

For the Love of Vintage Jewelry

We all know that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. But what about emeralds, pearls, and sparkly gems? My motto: Anything goes!

Steps to Stylish Vintage Jewels:

1. Make sure all the stones are secure. Time can loosen the setting and the glue can come un-glued.
2. Check for clarity. Even vintage faux gems can get cloudy with age.
3. The finish on faux pearls tends to chip and crack over time. Be sure to roll each pearl over to check it from every angle!
4. Be prepared to re-string! Sometimes the pearls are in amazing condition, but the string is weak.

Vintage jewelry makes great, affordable accessories! Add a little bling without breaking the bank!!

Ode to Ellen Von Unwerth

I adore the photography of Ellen von Unwerth. German born photographer brings an edge not typically seen on this side of the pond. I loved Ellen's work for Guess? Jeans in the early 90's and her Absolut Vodka ads have absolutely caught my attention.

Bold, bright, and artistic. Vibrant, stylish, and erotically feminine. Her black and whites are breath-taking. Her foray into the nudes are mesmerizing.

Renowned celebrity photographer, Ellen Von Unwerth can be seen virtually everywhere now. Pick up the latest issue of Vogue, chances are you'll find her work amongst the images that make an impression.

Summer Lovin'

I'm dreaming of summer. Summer blossoms, white cottages, sandy beaches, lilacs, lavender, and daisies. In anticipation of summer, I'm simplifying my life.

My Summer To-Do List Includes:

1. Take a nap on the swing
2. Pick lilacs for fresh flower vases
3. Fish off the dock
4. Watch the sun set on the lake
5. Make herbal sachets with fresh lavender
6. Teach my niece to create crowns out of daisies
7. Spend as much time gardening, fishing, and grilling as possible
8. Bonfire with good friends and good wine
9. Play like a kid at the park
10. Break out the sundresses and flip flops

Now that I have 10 things to look forward to, I can get back to spring cleaning, simplifying, and moving!

Luscious Red Lips

There is something nostalgic about bright red lips. Red lipstick is a must have accessory for vintage lovers, pinups, and girls galore.

Steps to Luscious Red Lips:

1. Before applying the perfect shade, apply liner first!

2. I love my the make-up counter at Dillard's. They always take the time to help me find the perfect red. I can rock a bright red in the winter. A dark red looks sultry with my summer tan!

3. Some of my favorite reds include, (1) MAC Ruby Woo. It’s even a fave of Dita Von Teese (per her Twitter). The color is thick and rich, blue-red, and it does not budge all day. And its only $14 USD. (2) Revlon Fire and Ice. Perfect coral red that's been around since the 50s. Silky smooth, soft, and creamy. (3) Chanel Rouge Allure Romantic 28. Darker red is perfect for tan skin tones. "An instant icon, this luxurious lipstick formula combines lustrous colour, sensational comfort and fabulous wear."

Be bold. Be daring. Be you!!

All About The Tutu

I wanted so badly to study ballet, but it was really all about wearing the tutu. - Elle Macpherson

I resisted everything girlie when I was young. I steered clear of hearts, choose tree forts and tire swings. Now, I can't get enough of all things girlie!

Here are a few of my favorite girlie pieces. Only Oscar de la Renta could make a tulle collar top both dramatic and feminine. I love this photo of Julia Robert's displaying her fun and playful side in a huge ballet-esque dress. Tiaras & Tutu's Strawberry Dreams tulle skirt is cute as a bug! Bubble gum pink with a huge rose and pink bow is perfect for the flower girl in a Spring Wedding.

Express your fun, flirty side and add something girlie to your wardrobe!

Vicki @ Nostalgic Collections
